March to May and September to November are 20–27 °C, which is the temperature at which 6–8 km of sandstone is a walk rather than an ordeal. April and October are the peak; book tours a week ahead.

Summer, June to August, is 33–36 °C in the shade there is not much of. It is not impossible — the 06:30 pickup exists for exactly this — but you plan the day backwards from noon. Winter is 13–15 °C, frequently fine, and occasionally the Siq floods: the authority closes the site when it rains hard, and tours refund or reschedule. Each listing states its own weather policy — read the cancellation section before you book a winter date.

The candlelit Siq does not have a season: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 20:30 to 22:30, 17 JOD, about 1,500 candles, twelve months a year. Summer evenings are the pleasant part of a summer day; winter nights are cold and you bring the jacket.

The constraint is the weekday, not the month. If Petra by Night is on your list, the date you pick for Petra is a Monday, Wednesday or Thursday, and the tours that sleep in Wadi Musa that night are the ones that can include it.
